Description

A structured ten-week summer internship program is available for current students, typically between their junior and senior years of college, and very recent graduates who aspire to careers in the publishing industry. The program provides students with the opportunity to gain practical work experience and learn from publishing professionals.

Internship assignments exist in a variety of areas within the company. For the Summer of 2013, the Malden office will have the following internship positions available:

•SSH - Journals Editorial (2 positions)

•SSH - Journals Marketing

• Information Technology (IT)

•Central Marketing

•Health Sciences, Journals Editorial

Our summer program combines on-the-job training with seminars and group luncheons.

The summer program offers a weekly stipend of $400 ($560 for the IT position), paid semi-monthly, and runs from May 30 through August 9, 2013. If you are interested in applying for an internship, submit a cover letter addressing why you would like to be selected for the program, and which department you are applying for, along with your resume. The deadline to apply for a 2013 summer internship is April 1, 2013.

Intern candidates should have experience using Microsoft Office software, especially Word and Excel. Excellent written and verbal communication skills are required, as well as the ability to multitask and be detail oriented. The ability to work well independently within a team-based environment is also important.

•Typical tasks for a Journals Editorial intern may include, but is not limited to: Library of Congress registration forms; coordination of department-wide bibliometrics project; proofread journal proposals, presentations, and contracts; research projects related to journal acquisitions. •Typical tasks for a Journals Marketing intern may include, but is not limited to: Web updates for existing Journals, WOL administration, filler Ads, create subject-level e-campaign – work with Global Marketers on campaign, prepare summary for use in Annual Reports, participate in meetings.

•Typical tasks for an IT intern may include, but is not limited to: Provide Assistance with email integration, LYNC testing, deployment of Virtual Desktops and Global Backup Solutions.

•Typical tasks for a Central Marketing intern may include, but is not limited to: Assist in developing Portal site for client-facing colleagues, updates society publishing website and monitor usage/web analytics.
