Marketing Intern Job Description
Junior Achievement (JA) is a
501©3 organization that inspires and prepares young people to succeed in a
global economy. Founded in 1919, JA now has 122 national affiliates and reaches
over four million students throughout the United States.
Junior Achievement is the only economics education organization that brings together educators, community volunteers and local businesses to teach students, grades K-12, about staying in school, personal financial responsibility, their roles as responsible consumers, and skills for the world of work. In short, Junior Achievement empowers young people to own their economic success.
The Marketing Intern at
Junior Achievement of Southern Massachusetts (JASM) will walk away with a working
knowledge of a non-profit program and its relationship with the community, as
well as its day-to-day operations. We take a team approach in our office,
and interns will have the opportunity to attend board and committee meetings,
learn about various job functions related to running a non-profit organization,
and develop skill sets that will be beneficial for future employers. In
addition, JASM has recently partnered with the New England Publishing Group
(NEPG) to serve as our Official Media Sponsor and will have the opportunity to
work very closely with NEPG staff on various projects.
Since we are a non-profit
organization, the internship is unpaid, but we will reimburse at the end of
each month for mileage expenses that are incurred during the job.
Primary Duties & Responsibilities:

Work closely with
JASM staff and our Official Media Sponsor to achieve 2013-14 outreach goals
·
Assist in the
development and enhancement of the JASM website and make updates to the site as
needed
·
Manage and expand
social media channels
·
Design and create
content for new JASM marketing materials, consistent with JA branding
guidelines
·
Submit events to
online calendars
·
Assist with
creation and execution of a TV PSA
·
Create
e-newsletters that will be sent out periodically
·
Conduct
observation visits and take photos to be used in marketing outreach
·
Assist with
writing and distributing press releases as needed
·
Promote upcoming
events and program activities
·
Determine
strategies and tactics for reaching new audiences
·
Assist in the
preparation and execution of JA fundraising events as needed
Qualifications and Skills:
·
Must be a junior
or senior in good standing with the University
·
Candidate must posses
a strong interest in marketing, education or business, and/or non-profit administration
·
Must be self-motivated,
detail oriented, able to work independently, and able to follow instructions
·
Excellent verbal
and written communication skills
·
Must have
reliable transportation
·
Proficiency in
Microsoft Office and Publisher required. Adobe InDesign a plus.
·
Ability to handle
multiple projects at once
·
Ability to take
initiative and perform follow up
·
Since this
position requires a good deal of writing, the ideal candidate will have a
Marketing major / English minor
Time Commitment:
Approximately 10-15 hours (per week) @ 2
or 3 days per week, between 8:30 am – 5:00 pm
Start / end dates:
Internship opportunities are
available for both fall 2013 and spring 2014 semesters.
