Job Summary:

This Blue Cross Blue Shield of Rhode Island internship is an unpaid, academic credit opportunity that fulfills a variety of roles within the Department of Public Affairs. Interns will gain experience focused in media relations, public relations, and social media. Interns will be needed on an ongoing basis.

Essential Job Functions:
  • Works closely with the company’s Assistant Vice President of Public Affairs and Public Relations Specialist on initiatives including drafting and executing public relations efforts: releases, media advisories, talking points, social content, etc.
  • Assists with increasing visibility on social media platforms, including Facebook, Twitter, Google+ for the corporate channels
  • Builds and maintains relevant local and national media lists
  • Strategizes new social media campaigns and initiatives with community partners
  • Provides assistance during events and event planning

Position Skills/Qualifications Required:
  • Excellent organizational skills, time management skills
  • Excellent written, verbal, analytical and research skills
  • Highly technical and detail oriented abilities

Student interns are treated as team members and given tasks that provide them with the ability to grow in their future professional careers. Student interns must be willing to travel to the BCBSRI Corporate Office at 500 Exchange Street, Providence RI 02909, a minimum of twice a week. After interning with our office, each student will leave with a portfolio of work completed throughout the internship experience.

Student Interns should be ready to work in a professional environment and be confident working both dependently and in a team setting. Student interns should have some flexibility in their schedule.
