Description Gain valuable business experience at a Fortune 100 company! Liberty Mutual's Group Market underwriters focus on answering two fundamental questions. Should we write a policy for a customer, and if so, what is a fair price given the terms and conditions? On the surface these questions may seem straightforward, but our underwriters must be smart, responsive problem solvers who can dig a little deeper for the answers. As an Underwriting Intern you will focus on developing the skills necessary for success by assisting professionals with day-to-day job assignments. While your assignments will vary over time as you gain experience and skills, interns will typically perform some of the work of an entry-level Underwriter, such as: 1. Learning the basics of Underwriting and how to use various systems and applications. 2. Assisting the Underwriter/Underwriting Assistant with policy issuance, prospects, new business and endorsements. This includes assisting co-workers in researching problems and provides assistance to other departments as necessary. 3. Reviewing, evaluating and categorizing incoming documents; verifies information for accuracy/appropriateness and follows up with others for missing or questionable data; prepares and assembles documents for additional handling by other associates or for distributing to outside contacts. 4. Entering and retrieving information of varying complexity using computer systems and applications to update records, obtain information for others and respond independently to most questions and problems. 5. Preparing insurance forms/documents, correspondence and process other insurance transactions to provide customer service and support efforts to acquire and retain profitable business. 6. Performs other related support duties as requested, such as answering phones, processing mail, assisting customers, scanning, check processing (e.g., returning-and-canceling checks), and similar activities. During this time, you'll be part of a diverse, experienced team of people who work hard, enjoy what they do, and have strong relationships with each other. Together, you'll work to meet goals central to Liberty Mutual's mission of "helping people live safer, more secure lives." This opportunity is for a full-time internship starting in June 2012. Qualifications: As an intern, you must be working towards a bachelor's degree (graduating in 2013, 2014, or 2015) and possess a minimum 3.0 GPA (depending on school). In addition, the following criteria are highly recommended: Effective interpersonal, written and verbal communication skills. Ability to provide information in a clear, concise manner. Ability to build and maintain effective relationships. Effective analytical skills to gather information, analyze facts, and draw conclusions. Overview: We believe strongly that commercial success can be achieved in a manner consistent with principles and ideals that bind us together as one company, that set us apart from our competitors, and that in the end will allow us to say we have succeeded commercially by doing the right thing the right way. We believe that the Company's success is inextricably linked to our employees' satisfaction and success: satisfaction that they work for an industry leader committed to improving safety, satisfaction that they work for a company that does the right thing, and satisfaction that the company will reward them for their contributions and provide opportunities for personal growth and success. We believe our employees take pride in knowing that they help people live safer more secure lives everyday. Responsibility. What's your policy? Job Underwriting Primary Location US-MA-Weston |
