The HBP Higher Education unit develops and distributes educational content to academic customers. The unit consists of a number of departments: Business, Technology, Product Management, Marketing, Sales, and Learning Services. The Learning Services unit enhances and develops new models for content procurement, delivery, and usage. Right now our primary format for delivering ‘print’ (non-eProduct) content is Adobe PDF. One of the large initiatives for summer 2012 is the revamping of our processes and systems to enable the online delivery of print content (HTML format) as well as the potential to deliver content in formats native to eReaders like the iPad (ePUB format). A cross-department team led by Learning Services has been created and we’ll need the assistance of the Learning Services intern on a number of aspects of the project – from helping to document and define current vs. planned content workflows, to testing new delivery methods, to helping arrange focus group tests and delivery reviews.

Key Responsibilities:
  • Assist with the XML Initiative as needed – primarily testing files on various devices and testing across a range of mobile features/approaches (annotation, collaboration, etc).
  • Assist with other Learning Services work as needed – R&D projects involving LMS integration, testing content access/behavior on LMS ‘sandbox’ environments, etc.
Requirements This internship will require strong project management skills, writing skills, and communication skills. The tasks will vary throughout the term of the internship and ability to multi-task is essential. We also seek an individual who can balance the ability to work independently with the ability to seek counsel and guidance appropriately when necessary.

We would like to review writing/project samples for potential candidates. This could be anything that showcases project management and written communication -- a class project, a term paper, multimedia design, etc.
