Product Analyst Summer Intern – Personal Lines Product Management

DESCRIPTION:
The Personal Lines division of The Hartford is one of the top providers of property and casualty insurance products, such as Automobile and Homeowners insurance, to consumers across the United States . We distribute our products to customers via several distribution channels, including Direct and through Agency partners. Since 1984, we have partnered with AARP to offer an exclusive Auto and Home Insurance program to its members – one of the largest and most successful affinity programs of its kind in the insurance industry.

The Personal Lines Product Management team is seeking a Product Analyst Intern to support our state teams as they manage the performance of our Auto and Homeowners products. The Product Management teams are responsible for both the day-to-day performance of their assigned states as well as building and executing a long term strategic vision to deliver profit and growth objectives for their assigned states. The intern will work with an assigned state or regional team to support the state Product Manager(s) and Region Analyst(s).

RESPONSIBILITIES:
  • Monitor the performance and profitability of our products within assigned states
  • Monitor the quality of business written to ensure that it meets our desired targets
  • Conduct data analysis projects as needed to help find trends and opportunities for improvement with the pricing of our current products
  • Perform competitive analysis and research to help Product Management respond to changes in our competitive landscape in a timely manner
  • Assist with rate level analysis and rate revisions on assigned products, including pricing analysis and preparation of rate filings and state-specific supporting materials
  • Support the implementation of new product features and coverages

This position is based out of our office in Simsbury , CT. We offer free parking, an on-site medical facility, and on-site fitness center. The locations also offer full service cafeterias, ATM machines, and many other conveniences.

As an intern, you will have the opportunity to participate in The Hartford’s Summer Internship Program . Interns will attend weekly professional development and training workshops throughout the summer to build upon skills and competencies being developed in their day to day roles. In addition to our Community Service event(s), the program offers a number of opportunities to network with fellow interns and Hartford professionals throughout the enterprise. Our goal is for each intern to leave The Hartford having participated in a substantial role with meaningful work. Interns will end their summer with a better understanding of the Finance/Insurance industry and a network of professional contacts.

QUALIFICATIONS:
  • Successful progress towards a Bachelor’s degree in Business Management, Economics or other Quantitative field with anticipated graduation date of 2013
  • Strong business acumen, including mathematical and analytical skills
  • Strong project management, planning and organizational skills
  • Demonstrated leadership potential through classroom and extracurricular activities
  • Enthusiastic personality and strong communication skills
  • Ability to multi-task, prioritize assignments and meet deadlines in a fast paced environment while paying attention to details and quality of work
  • Ability to quickly adapt to new situations and changing business needs
  • Ability to work both independently and also in a team setting
  • Proficient with Microsoft Office, including Excel and PowerPoint
  • Proficient with database management
