Michael S. Dukakis Public Service Internship

Governor Michael S. Dukakis has endowed a public service internship at UMass Dartmouth to provide students with experience in government service and to encourage them to consider careers in public service. The University is pleased to announce again the availability of this exciting opportunity for its students.

The Dukakis Public Service Intern will be paid $5,000 to work for a period of approximately three months in a public service or government setting, probably during the summer or, by arrangement, during a semester or academic year.

Internship arrangements are made through the student,
faculty advisor and the Dukakis Internship director.

Applications are invited from any full-time undergraduate or graduate UMass Dartmouth student who will be enrolled at UMD during AY 2012-2013. Students from all majors are encouraged to apply.

Applicants must have at least a 3.0 grade point average and have completed at least one full-time semester at UMass Dartmouth prior to the application deadline. Applicants may apply at any point in their academic career, but preference will be given to applicants who are further along.

Students should submit a completed Dukakis public service internship application form, along with a statement of interest (which should explain the applicant's views on leadership and interest in public service), a current resume that includes the applicant's leadership experiences and extracurricular activities, an official copy of the student's current transcript, and a letter of recommendation from a faculty sponsor.

Copies of the application form and guidelines are available in the Student Affairs Office in the Campus Center (Suite 221).

Applications should be returned to the Michael S. Dukakis Public Service Selection Committee, Student Affairs Office, Campus Center (Suite 221), no later than 4:00 pm, Friday March 16th, 2012.

It is expected that the recipients of the Dukakis internships will be announced in mid-April.
