Sports marketing and professional sports internships are in demand by students. Unfortunately, we haven't been approached by very many sports organizations regarding internships. Some time ago, I posted internships with Gillette stadium and the Bruins - see the links below.

Some of our students have interviewed for the Gillette positions and I have talked to the supervisor there. My impression is that the Gillette internship is a tough one - mostly helping market affinity credit cards for the Patriots and the Revolution and if you make it through that, better internships with the Patriots, Revolution, or the Kraft Sports group might follow.
We also had a posting last spring for TD North Garden and the NE Sports Museum:

I am not as familiar with the Bruins internships so you may want to test the waters on that one by sending a resume. Other ideas might be to send the P-Bruins a resume and the Pawtucket Red Sox. The sports marketing
internship is something you will need to hustle to find since I haven't had a great deal of luck bringing in professional organizations from the sports world. We have had students intern at WEEI Boston - in fact we have a student there right now. I don't have contact information on them but I'm sure you can find it on their web site (I do listen to WEEI every day).
If you want to do some marketing of yourself as a sports marketing intern, check out the sample cover letter at:

One last idea, you could send a cover letter and resume to the Athletic Director of area colleges (including those in Rhode Island) and propose to work for 9 hours a week helping to market their sports programs. I'm sure they could use a hand. There is usually a sports information director who probably needs help. That might help you make more contacts. That's the way it is in the sports internships, sometimes you have to start at a grass roots level, network, and make contacts.
Summer may also offer opportunities for sports internships. Think about what professional sports teams are located back home. There's the Sea Dogs in Portland, Lowell Spinners, Brockton Rox, etc.
