Message to UMD Students

Hi CCB Students:

Welcome back. As internship director, one of my responsibilities is to make you aware of ways you can learn about internship opportunities. I have an article I have written called How to Land and Excellent Internship, which you might find useful. I have also written a book that prospective interns might find used and it is available on the Lulu.com site (and is now required of students taking our internship course) entitled: Business Internships.

I n addition, I highly recommend that you become my friend on Facebook and follow my tweets (@bizinternships) as I use Facebook and Twitter now almost exclusively to promote internships that I come upon. I also blog quite a bit on http://www.businessinternships.blogspot.com/ and I suggest that if you are looking for an internship, you might make it a habit to follow the blog. I am trying to get away from email blasts like this one and rely more on Facebook, Twitter, and the blog to communicate with you about internships.

You should also exhaust all other means of looking for an internship - family, friends, the UMD career center, Indeed.com, Monster.com, unsolicited letters and resumes etc. Great internships and good jobs are landed by those who are proactive and aggressive. Start working on a career plan - the UMD Career Development Center can help. They are located in the campus center. It is my understanding that CCB will also hold career programs during the academic year and I suggest you participate in those and those sponsored by the various student clubs and associations within CCB.
