The Science and Technology Books Division at Elsevier has an exciting internship opportunity in the Marketing department. Through individual and team project-based work, the intern will be introduced to the business of publishing, gaining hands-on experience and knowledge in the creation, management and dissemination of marketing campaigns and projects. The intern will be given the opportunity to observe, participate in, and learn about many aspects of business, publishing, marketing, project management, and interdepartmental collaboration.
 
The Marketing Intern will be reporting to Stephen Fiedler, Community Marketing Manager and will be located in the Elsevier Waltham, MA office. This will be a 10-week internship over the summer of 2014. This will be a 4-day a week internship, Monday through Thursday, 9-5, and will be paid at an hourly rate of $8.10.
 
The Internship will provide the intern broad exposure to various marketing activities within the organization. Interns will be given the opportunity to participate in marketing and publicity campaigns, learn more about E-Commerce, SEO and advertising, and will be responsible for leading content marketing projects, including the creation, repurposing and dissemination of content among various audience segments and personas.
 
This internship will consist of 3 marketing projects, with the opportunity to work across multiple marketing channels dedicated to each area (Community/Social Media/Blog, E-Commerce, Publicity, Textbooks, Retail/Institutional E-book). The program will culminate with a capstone project, highlighting the full scope of work and projects completed.
 
At the end of the internship, the intern should have a working knowledge of how to strategize, develop and execute marketing campaigns for various audience segments and will oversee each stage of development for the three projects. Interns will learn how difference processes, including: content marketing, Publicity, E-Commerce, and sales, fit into overall strategy, messaging and content development.

Qualifications

 
The ideal candidate for the internship will have several of the following skills and experience:
 
• Studying for a Bachelor’s in Marketing, Business, Publishing, Journalism or a related field.
• Interest in marketing, publicity, branding and books.
• Proficiency with Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, Outlook).
• Proficiency with Google Drive and other sharing tools (DropBox, Calendar, etc…)
• Experience with content marketing strategies, core concepts and ideas.
• Experience doing marketing/industry research and competitive analysis.
• Experience using creative content generation tools a plus (Photo Shop, Final Cut, etc…)
• Experience using social media and management/scheduling tools a plus (Hootsuite, Spredfast, etc…)
• Work experience within an office environment strongly encouraged.
• An ideal candidate will be independently driven and have good time management skills, along with the ability to juggle multiple tasks, deadlines and people.
