2013 SUMMER INTERNSHIP OPPORTUNITIES AVAILABLE IN HIGH TECH, CLEAN ENERGY & LIFE SCIENCES

Immediate Action Required - Time is Running Out to Apply

Business majors who have an interest in the following industries: HIGH TECH, CLEAN ENERGY & LIFE SCIENCES are eligible to apply for Summer 2013 internships in Massachusetts.

To be eligible: Intern candidates must be Massachusetts residents OR attend a Massachusetts academic institution and must have completed their sophomore year prior to the start of the Summer internship. Therefore, your year of graduation must be 2012, 2013, 2014 or 2015. Graduate students must have completed or will complete a Master's Degree program after 2011. Ph. D. candidates are not eligible to participate in the program.

1. What is the Internship Challenge?

The Internship Challenge is a workforce development program focused on enhancing the talent

pipeline for Massachusetts companies engaged in the life sciences. The Massachusetts Life Sciences

Center (MLSC) facilitates the placement of students and recent graduates who are considering career

opportunities in the life sciences in paid internships across the state throughout the year. Consistent

with the MLSC’s role as a catalyst in growing the talent needed by the life sciences industry, the

Internship Challenge is designed to create hundreds of new internship opportunities each year by

enabling small businesses to hire interns. The MLSC reimburses eligible companies for intern stipends.

2. What are the program’s objectives?

The objectives of the Internship Challenge are to:

 Provide the life sciences community with a talented pool of young scientists

 Enable more students to explore career opportunities in a challenging economic environment

 Enable more life sciences companies to mentor students and provide internship opportunities

across a broader spectrum

 Increase awareness and meet a need identified by multiple talent reports

 Recognize and support the need for greater diversity in our life sciences workforce

 Provide a peer network of young scientists and students interested in working in the life

sciences

3. How does the program work?

Students or recent graduates that are looking for an internship in the life sciences industry will need to

first complete an online application (link below), which includes their resume and a cover letter.

Applications are accepted year‐round but will expire after six months if not updated. Representatives

from companies looking to host interns review applications, interview candidates, and select interns

with the qualifications that are most suited to their needs.

Summer Session 2013

1. What is the Massachusetts Clean Energy Internship Program?

The Massachusetts Clean Energy Internship Program is a workforce development initiative offered through the Massachusetts Clean Energy Center (MassCEC) and New England Clean Energy Council (NECEC) that focuses on enhancing the talent pipeline for Massachusetts companies engaged in the clean energy industry. The Massachusetts Clean Energy Internship Program facilitates the placement of students and recent graduates who are considering career opportunities in clean energy through paid internships across the state. Consistent with MassCEC and NECEC’s role as a catalyst in growing the talent needed by the clean energy industry, the internship program is designed to provide students and companies with the tools to connect, and MassCEC will reimburse eligible companies for intern stipends.

2. What are the objectives of the Massachusetts Clean Energy Internship Program?

The objectives of Massachusetts Clean Energy Internship Program are to:

• Provide the clean energy community with a talented pool of young professionals

• Enable students to gain significant career opportunities in a challenging economic environment

• Enable clean energy companies to mentor students and provide internship opportunities across a broader spectrum of student background

• Support the need for greater diversity in our clean energy workforce

• Provide a peer network of students interested in working in clean energy

3. How does the program work?

Students looking for an internship in the clean energy industry will be required to complete an online application that includes a resume and supporting eligibility documents (as discussed in Question 5). Students will identify their academic background and the industry subsector in which they would prefer to intern. Representatives from companies looking to host interns will review these applications and select candidates with the qualifications that are most suited to their needs. MassCEC and NECEC recommend that internships are full-time over a 10‐week period. Companies will provide a meaningful internship opportunity and a mentor for each intern.
