Finance Internships: UPS

Finance Internships with UPS (PAID)

Please read the following if you are a finance major looking for an internship. Unfortunately, we cannot award credit for these internships since the positions opened too late into the semester. However, we have had
success with CCB business majors in these positions are located in Norwood, Massachusetts which means it is about 45-50 miles from campus.


Internship Positions:

Procurement Intern
Capital Budgeting Intern
Profitability Management Intern

Overview of the internship objectives:
UPS has three (3) different internship opportunities that cover a complete business approach.


" The Procurement Intern will focus on the purchasing programs of UPS (Amex, Purchasing Card, iProcurement). The intern will look at district's overall compliance of corporate procedures and ways to reduce overall spending through better pricing with top vendors.


" The Capital Budgeting Intern will focus on the return on all projects completed within the district over $5,000. The intern will identify projects that improved the operational efficiency of the package network and review areas that need improvement.


" Profitability Management Intern will focus on customer issues with pricing and customer profitability, as well as, examine UPS's cost structure. The intern will work on improving overall profitability of customers through reporting and educating the district on the profitability impact of day to day operational decisions.

Primary duties and responsibilities:
" Developing and/or working with statistical data bases and analysis
of the data
" Maintaining certain reference data and documents
" Developing and maintaining certain software and spreadsheets
" Analyzing root cause of problems and completing action plans to solve
" Working with shippers to identify a solutions
" Follow up with Region and District inquiries and requests
" Ability to explain planning methodology and accounting procedures
to others
" Monitoring proper shipper compliance
" Performing functional audits and review of department procedures to
ensure adherences to S-O Act.

What will the student learn from this experience?
The interns will learn to organize information in a manner to effect business solutions both with internal and external customers. The interns will develop abilities to independently identify problems and come up with
solutions in a past faced business environment. In addition the interns would gain experience in day to day prioritizing, importance of building and maintaining relationships, ability to work in a department that will
give an overall business knowledge of all functional areas from marketing to accounting to general management and operations management.

Compensation: Hourly rate of pay is based on academic experience- juniors-
$16.65; seniors $18.40.

Candidates: Junior or senior business student.

Skills required: All Students need to have completed Principles of Accounting I and II and ability to use Microsoft Office Suite. The following positions are best suited for students in the corresponding
academic major


" Profitability Management Intern- Finance, Accounting, Marketing
" Procurement Intern- Finance, Accounting, Management
" Capital Budgeting Intern- Finance, Accounting, Operations Management

Hours of work: 20-25 hours a week based on students academic class schedule- Monday thru Friday.

How students will be evaluated: Each intern will have 8-12 specific goals, depending on specific internship, on how they will be expected to impact UPS's overall business. These goals will be broken into 4 different
business focuses: Customer, People & Innovation, Financial, and Internal Business Processes.
