Southcoast Hospital Group: Business Internships

Southcoast Hospitals Group: Several Business Internships for SUMMER OR FALL 2007

These are UNPAID INTERNSHIPS

To qualify you must have at least a 2.5 GPA and be junior or senior standing (as of Fall 2007)

  • Human Resources department for Southcoast Hospitals Group. Needs a summer or fall intern to work on various projects. Some of the work will involve pulling together summaries on employee surveys and updating employee handbooks.

    The Contracting & Re-imbursement Department for Southcoast Hospitals Group needs a summer or fall intern to work with all of insurance vendors to establish fee schedules etc. Also has strategic projects that need completion

    The department of Professional Development- Patient Care Services needs a summer or fall intern to work on action plans, facilitate meetings, work on special projects involving data collection, performing literature reviews, making benchmarking calls small projects work

    The department of Health Information Services ( Medical Records) has several projects that an MIS summer of fall intern could work on including coding and reimbursement, and creating a physician documentation Improvement Program (Access database) to create report to monitor the success of the program- creating physician report cards

    The department of Patient services at Tobey Hospital (Wareham) needs a summer or fall intern to work on a patient satisfaction research project and start up a team to address patient satisfaction research around throughput to help streamline a process and look at
    the need for a stepdown unit. Another project could involve looking at the budget for nursing to look for cost savings and research change management and preparation for a division retreat.

    The HR Department at Charlton Memorial Hospital in Fall River, MA has several projects for summer or fall interns including:

    Onboarding Projects- creating surveys- distribution of surveys- data collection
    Seniority Hours- researching employee files for possible need to recalculate seniority hours about 12 employees
    Auditing of file compliance for Accrediation visit
    Working with HR consultants on developing, implementing and analyzing methods to reduce turnover rate in selected departments.
    Assisting with running reports, compiling and analyzing data, creating charts related to quarterly turnover rates
    Working on process improvement in regards to LOA's

    Charlton Memorial Hospital Gift Shop located at 363 Highland Avenue
    Fall River, MA needs a gift-shop manager-intern. Details are below.


    Position Title: Gift Shop Manager-Intern

    Reports to: Gift Shop Manager & Director of Volunteer Services

    Position Goal: To assist in the day to day operation of the gift.

    Duties and Requirements:
    Proper dress code at all times, i.e. ID badge and uniform/well groomed at all times
    Complete understanding of Patient Confidentiality/HIPAA
    Sign-in and out at assigned area(s)
    Accept inventory, update on-line inventory, price items
    Display merchandise
    Familiarize yourself with stock and prices
    Prepare daily and monthly reports
    Assist in the sale of merchandise
    Notify gift shop manager when unable to report for assignment


    Position Requirements:
    Must be friendly, courteous and helpful
    Good financial skills

Be sure to note the particular internship position that you are applying for. These are UNPAID internships however, you may qualify for UMD CCB credit (3 credits for business elective) assuming you meet the requirements of CCB internship policies (including successful completing of internship course.)
