Marketing Internships at the New Bedford Museum of Glass (Summer 2012)

Marketing Internships at the New Bedford Museum of Glass (Summer 2012)

The New Bedford Glass Museum has three paid internships this summer.  This is the result of a Creative Economy grant that I co-wrote with Dr. Matt Roy this past spring.  Interested students should send their resumes to: LCoffin@nbmog.org

There is enough funding for 140 hours at $10.00 per hour.  This is a start-up situation in the nonprofit world.  You will be helping to establish some critical marketing functions and strategies to help grow the membership base and revenues of this museum.

This will qualify for internship credit which means you will be approved to take the summer internship course which is 100% online.  I can get you a waiver to enroll late into the class and I can extend due dates on assignments for you (the class started this week).  However, the course does carry the normal tuition of a summer course and the student will need to bear that cost.  You do not have to earn the credit to participate in this internship but if you land one of these and want to do the course, let me know and I'll make arrangements to get you into the course.

Program / Marketing Internship Opportunities

The New Bedford Museum of Glass is a 501 (c) 3 organization that opened to the public in September of 2010. Located in a renovated factory building just minutes from downtown New Bedford, the Museum features an outstanding collection of glass ranging from contemporary work by the world’s leading studio artists to vessels made during classical antiquity, more than 2,500 years ago. Special attractions include glassworking tools, demonstration videos and examples of art glass made by local factories. The Museum’s research library numbers more than 8,000 catalogued publications. Please visit our website at www.nbmog.org to learn more.

As the Museum works to establish itself as an outstanding cultural resource for the area, it invites UMD student interns to create and implement marketing strategies that will help to publicize the Museum and its educational programs. Interns will work with museum staff, UMD faculty and fellow interns on a broad range of marketing projects, including:

*Expansion of internet exposure through work on the museum website, Constant Contact communications, and the development of material for social and professional networking sites such as Facebook, LinkedIN and Pinterest.

*Development and distribution of advertising and publicity material for printed and broadcast media, including newspapers, magazines, collector literature, television, radio, signage, posters, fliers, rack cards, etc.

*Planning and assistance on a variety of fundraising initiatives and outreach activities

*Development of marketing opportunities through collaboration with local and national arts organizations, expansion of corporate and business partnership programs, implementation of a membership campaign and promotion of educational programs designed for school groups and collector organizations.

UMD student interns will be introduced to a wide range of activities that support a 501 (c) 3 arts organization, including operation of a museum store and assistance with gallery installation projects and educational programming. They will work in the front entrance area to the Museum, adjacent to the museum galleries.
