Insurance Position

A local insurance company is interested in recruiting a college graduate or intern for a commercial insurance sales position in this region (Southcoast). The job includes prospecting regional residents and businesses and designing and selling the proper coverage and services to meet the needs of those clients. It is a relationship building business that requires strong personal skills, strong technical skills and a desire to learn. This is not just selling life insurance over the phone. It includes dealing with business owners, both large and small, to build a comprehensive insurance and risk management program. The focus will be on commercial lines of insurance, including property and casualty insurance products. The successful candidate will be dealing with business owners, manufacturers, etc. Skills from marketing, sales and finance are required.

The early path for the right candidate will involve interning briefly in our Fall River office and then undertake an intensive national sales training program developed by our industry and endorsed by our national and
state association. The program runs 3 weeks and is held in Dallas in the fall or Plymouth in June. Stafford will cover the cost of the program.

About our HR Internship Openings: Our HR department has openings for HR Interns (applicants must be a college student fully enrolled in school/university) to assist our Staffing Recruiter at our Corporate location in Waltham. This is an excellent opportunity for students interested in gaining valuable experience in a Human Resources department working with our Staffing Recruiter for employment and staffing for both NE & NY job opportunities. In addition, you will work with our HR Business Partners and Industrial Relations Group, which handles our union staffing. Current semester interns will meet with you and interview summer interns. You will be able to ask them about their experience and knowledge gained during their internship.

As an intern you will gain hands-on experience in many HR functions including recruitment, retention, Business Transformation, Testing Applicants, Employee Orientation programs, Internship Program, Recruitment, Selection Process, Hiring Practices, and Employee Relations.
Responsibilities for this position will include, but are not limited to:

Testing all union applicants for consideration of employment.
Assisting the Senior Corporate Recruiter with the day-to-day operations of the HR dept.
Assisting with the job posting process internally, online through Monster & placing ads in newspapers.
Assisting with various telephone & email inquiries.
Assisting with pre-screening applicants for both union and management positions.
Participating with the interviewing process alongside hiring managers & supervisors.
Looking for external talent by attending job fairs.
Performing reference checking and background checking through with our vendors.
Providing daily administrative support to Human Resources Staff members including data entry, word processing, special projects, copying and filing.

The successful Interns must have strong organizational, multi-tasking, and customer service skills.

Dependability, confidentiality, and a team-focused attitude with a willingness to learn are expected. Hours are flexible. At least 16+ hours or more per week preferred.

KeySpan’s Internship program offers college students the opportunity to gain valuable experience in our Human Resources Department as well as learning about the functions of other departments within the Company.

Interns are unpaid and therefore must be:
Enrolled at an accredited four or five-year college or university, on track to receive a bachelor or advanced degree.

Able to provide proof of credit from your college or university prior to starting your assignment.
Currently of sophomore standing or above.

Although these internships are unpaid, this is an essential experience for a student interested in a career in the HR field. And at the end of the internship, a stipend is given to our interns based on performance. Our HR department is responsible for staffing needs for over 1800+ employee located in the NE region (NH, MA & RI) and assist our NY recruiters with staffing needs for 9000+ company-wide.
