Internship in India
The internship program, which is called Global Connect, has been in place for a few years and has had participation from students in Europe. Extentia Information Technology, the company sponsoring the internships, has quite a bit of information online. I suggest that if you are interested in immersing yourself in technology development activities of a very successful enterprise, located in one of the busiest and business friendly cities of India (Pune), you should explore this program by visiting:
http://www.extentia.com/Connect_Index.asp
The company has a U.S.-based representative - Preeti Gupte,
who would be happy to discuss the program with interested students and to meet with groups of students and faculty. That is something I could set up in the Fall 2008 if there is enough interest.
Anyone interested in this internship should visit Extentia's web site and learn about the company.
Also, feel free to complete and online application to explore this opportunity in more detail. I can personally attest to the fact that this is a firm of very talented developers and entrepreneurs. I have worked with Extentia on a variety of software projects and have been so impressed with the quality of the work and the professionalism.
If you have questions you want to address directly to Extentia regarding this opportunity, contact Preeti Gupte at preeti.gupte@extentia.com. Pretti is a very nice person and would be happy to talk to you about the internship, Pune, India, the company etc. If it comes to the point where you might want to seek credit for such an experience, I would be happy to help structure something with you.
This is an opportunity for a student looking to not only experience cutting edge information technology and software development but to gain valuable international experience.
These internships are 6 months in duration. Extentia provides housing and a stipend.
The population of Pune and its surrounding is estimated at of 5,050,000 as of 2008. The city of Pune is home to many corporations, educational institutions and professionals. Pune is one of the eight megacities of India so it is also a major financial centre of India. Pune has a stong economy because it is a industrial hub and a major investment destination in the world. Information technology and software development are thriving industries in Pune.
