Welcome back! I hope you were able to relax during the break and find some time to recharge the batteries. The Career Development Center is gearing up for an active semester. We will be hosting 3 large events and hope you are able to attend them. There will be a Nursing and Health Career Fair, Federal Career Panel, and a Career Expo during this semester, so be on the lookout for flyers across campus and emails with more information.
All students are welcome to meet 1-on-1 with a counselor to discuss a variety of career related topics. These appointments are a great way to learn about and get more information on resumes, cover letters, interviewing, networking, job/internship search, career assessments, and general career guidance, to name a few. This opportunity might be great for a marketing student with great computer skills or a creative MIS student. You must be a self-starter and comfortable in a variety of situations. Good communication skills are necessary.
The Downtown Taunton Foundation, a 501 C 3 non-profit, whose mission is to revitalize downtown Taunton is seeking an intern to work on marketing and advertising for the downtown as well as assistance with non-profit management. Projects would include assistance with further development of the Downtown Taunton website, assistance with marketing strategies to promote downtown businesses, downtown event planning and organization, fundraising, and general assistance with the day to day operations of the non-profit. The intern would also work with the city’s Office of Economic and Community Development with work they are doing to revitalize downtown, including streetscape development. Potential interns should have a concentration in marketing and/or MIS. Junior or senior CCB majors preferred. Intern is needed as soon as possible.

Interesting Local Internship for a Marketing or Creative MIS Student with Photography Skills
IMTRA is a Marine Products company located in New Bedford. They are in the final days of launching an updated version of their company website. There are a number of “clean-up” issues that they need to do to complete the site. One of them is to create images for nearly 1000 products. They have a small photo tent and a camera, and just don’t have staff that can devote the time to take most of the pictures. An intern could assist with the photography and the data entry related to getting these images up on the site.

The Southeastern Environmental Education Alliance (SEEAL) has launched the SouthCoast Energy Challenge to engage and mobilize residents to become more thoughtful and efficient energy consumers. The program aims to reduce energy consumption by 15% among 35,000 SouthCoast households over three years. This approximately 120 million pound reduction in carbon dioxide emissions is equivalent to taking about 10,000 cars off the road! The Challenge promotes individual action as well as friendly competition among towns, schools, businesses, congregations, and nonprofits.
SEEAL lead partners in the Challenge include: Marion Institute, Bristol Community College, University of Massachusetts Dartmouth Office of Sustainability, Southeastern Regional Planning and Economic Development District (SRPEDD), Southeastern Massachusetts Agricultural Partnership (SEMAP), and the Ocean Explorium. SEEAL is a program fund of the Community Foundation of Southeastern Massachusetts.
Internship Description:
The primary focus of the SouthCoast Energy Challenge Outreach & Organizing Interns will be community outreach through canvassing and tabling at events to spread awareness and increase participation in the Challenge. The successful interns will work closely with the Program Coordinators to organize and promote the Challenge in the Greater New Bedford area, with an initial focus on Dartmouth. While some of the work will be in the SouthCoast Energy Challenge Dartmouth Initiative office, the Organizing Team will be expected to work predominantly in the community at large. We are seeking college aged or older applicants for these positions, and requesting a two semester commitment with the possibility of staying on into the Fall of 2012.

A writing sample is requested. We are seeking college aged or older applicants for this position, and requesting a two semester commitment with the potential of staying on into the Fall of 2012.
